Wow. Can you believe it’s 2025 already? While everyone else is focused on their New Year’s resolutions, let’s talk about something more exciting: planning your college journey. After seeing our students’ incredible early admission results at Harvard, Stanford, and MIT these past few weeks, we want to help YOU start writing your own success story.

Juniors (Grade 11/Year 12)

Think about those seniors who just got their dream acceptances. Last January, they were in your shoes. Junior year might feel like a lot, but it’s the perfect time to focus and take action.
Your January Priorities:
  • Excel in Your Semester Finals: These grades matter a lot for your college applications. Start studying early and don’t hesitate to ask for help if you need it.
  • Prepare for Standardized Tests: With top universities increasingly requiring SAT/ACT scores, now is the time to begin test prep. Learn more about SAT requirements and deadlines here.
  • Start College Exploration: Check out free tools like College Navigator to research schools that catch your eye. Your list doesn’t have to be perfect yet—just start imagining where you see yourself.
  • Sophomores (Grade 10/Year 11)

You’re in an ideal position: comfortable enough in high school to take on new challenges, but with plenty of time to make a meaningful impact.
    Your Next Steps:
  • Step into Leadership: If you’ve found activities you love, aim for leadership roles. These experiences stand out on applications. Check out examples of impactful extracurriculars.
  • Challenge Yourself Academically: Speak with your family about enrolling in AP/IB/A-Level classes next year if you aren’t already on track.
  • Embrace Your Passions: Whether it’s coding, art, or something totally unique, lean into what excites you. Passion projects can really make for incredible college essays down the road.
  • (Grade 9/Year 10)

While college might seem distant, elite institutions do look at freshman grades. But don’t let that pressure you—let it motivate you. You have an entire community ready to support your journey.
    Your 2025 Focus:
  • Discover Your Interests: Whether it’s robotics, creative writing, or both (¿por qué no los dos?), find what excites you. We’re currently building a guide to help you zero-in on your extracurriculars, so keep an eye out.
  • Build Good Habits: Strong grades now will give you more opportunities later. There are plenty of free tools like Khan Academy to keep your skills sharp.
  • Experiment with Activities: Try different clubs and hobbies to uncover what truly matters to you. The best applications showcase genuine interests developed over time.
  • The Key to Success

After years of helping students reach their dream schools, we’ve learned there’s no single “right” path to college success. However, there is a right time to start planning—and that time is now.
